Hawaii, Spring 2006 Print

The University of Hawaii (UH) has developed telescopes on the summit of Mauna Kea, a mountain that is sacred to native Mauna Kea Hui. In Spring 2006, Professor Randy Hester and students of LD ARCH 205 traveled to the Big Island, produced spatial plans of the Mauna Kea mountain, and presented alternative visions for the mountain when the UH lease expires. Fieldwork, interviews, GIS mapping, and historical research were all conducted and incorporated into the plan.
